Note: Christians sometimes become uncomfortable with the idea of symbolism in connection with numbers because they think of it as numerology. It is important to understand that numerology by its very nature involves divination as an essential element. All that is being suggested here in examining the way God has used numbers in scripture is that he used them symbolically in scripture to convey a message in just the same way he has used people, animals, places, things and parables. No suggestion is made or implied here, that numbers can or should be used to foretell the future, examine personality traits, manipulate events or in any other manner that goes beyond seeking the symbolic message implied by the way God has used the numbers in scripture.
