Biur Hametz
Non kosher foods may be eaten until a predetermined hour on the morning before Passover. From that time on only foods kosher for Passover are eaten. As mentioned elesewhere, all hametz/chametz must be removed from the home therefore arrangements are often made through a Rabbi to sell (temporarily) some of these items to a non-Jew. After Passover these items can be redeemed.
Those hametz/chametz items found during the search that are not going to be sold are burned during a ceremony that includes a prayer that any hametz that may have been missed will be considered ownerless.
